Social Programme

This programme has been specially developed for delegates and will fit around the first three days of the conference. A selection of excursions, educational and social, can be booked now via the link below. A brief summary of what you can book is below and fuller details are available from the website link at the foot of the page.

The social programme is designed for delegates who prefer something a little more organised - at least to fill part of the time and get a true feeling for Edinburgh, Scotland and what it has to offer. There is a charge for each event or trip made payable directly to the event organiser. Full details and costs are outlined on their website set up for EPICOH delegates only.

Sunday 27th August

Although still 24 hours from conference start the ECN (Early Career Network) are planning a Fringe Show (comedy) and Drinks night as part of the closing days of the Edinburgh Festivals. More details will follow via the ECN.

Monday 28th August

For the early arrivals, we have organised a choice of three excursions before the evening conference reception and one for after. They cater for different interests.

Firstly we have our EAST LOTHIAN INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE TOUR -a visit to three sites of importance relating to mining, whisky and  engineering. All stops are within close proximity and will help present a picture of the industrial revolution and the industries specific to Scotland at that time and a visit to one of Scotland's most famous whisky distilleries. Trip includes guides, lunch and entrance costs. It is a round trip of around 40 miles.

Secondly, we have an alternative trip to our CANAL HERITAGE TOUR -a visit to the unique engineering achievement and boat lift of The Falkirk Wheel linking the two canals which split the central belt of Scotland, and to The Kelpies, a recent amazing structural attraction along-side the Union Canal just a short stop away. Falkirk is approximately 30 minutes from Edinburgh. The trip includes guides, lunch and entrance costs. It is a round trip of around 40 miles.

Thirdly if you would prefer something a little shorter, we have a special CITY BUS TOUR to allow you to see all the sights of this old town and let you experience the city and all before lunchtime.

Finally, and after the official Cocktail Welcome reception we are suggesting you take advantage of the world famous FESTIVAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY and musical extravaganza which is projected onto Edinburgh Castle and which celebrates the end of the International Festival. It is a must see and we intend to have a limited amount of tickets for those who want to attend the reception and then take the 5 minute walk down to the Princes Street Gardens and your place for the display. When we have this confirmed we will put details on how to buy/book these tickets here on this website page.

Tuesday 29th August

Immediately after the first full conference day we have a whisky tasting option. Scotland and whisky are inextricably linked and for those delegates that want to do a tasting this can be done as a social event at the EICC. A non-alcoholic event is available later that evening with a popular Summer evening Ghost Walk.

In terms of the first option, we have a post conference EVENING WHISKY TASTING. It will start at 6.15 in the Cromdale Suite at the EICC. It will last until 7.30 and be a perfect per dinner aperitif as well as an opportunity to mix socially with other delegates. It promises to be a personal and authentic experience but delivered in a fun and entertaining presentation by our social events organising partner.

Secondly and as an alternative to whisky, we can offer a bit of fun and education with our old town GHOST WALK with an entertaining guide taking you through the narrow alleyways and underground caverns of Edinburgh, telling the story of battles, royals, treachery, poverty and the plague. The expert guides will bring Edinburgh of the past to back to life as you walk around Edinburgh's old town stopping off at a few of the historic landmarks for some short tales. It is likely you will find yourself close to some of the best pubs Edinburgh's Royal Mile has to offer once finished as well as see the famous 9pm fireworks display to close the International Edinburgh Festival. This tour will start at 8.00pm and finish at 9.00pm.If any of the above tours interest you, please book early as places will be limited. You will be booking directly with the official EPICOH conference tours company (Clearly Scotland) and can book with confidence and knowing that on each excursion you will be exclusively with EPICOH delegates.

The ECN will also have a social evening planned from 9pm for those who are looking to enjoy a taste of Edinburgh pubs and music entertainment.

Wednesday 30th August

The GALA DINNER is booked at the time of your conference registration and is organised by EPICOH2017 and booked directly with EPICOH2017. Accompanying person places are restricted to 1 per delegate. If you require more please speak to the event organisers @
