Social Programme
This programme has been specially developed for delegates and will fit around the first three days of the conference. A selection of excursions, educational and social, can be booked now via the link below. A brief summary of what you can book is below and fuller details are available from the website link at the foot of the page.
The social programme is designed for delegates who prefer something a little more organised - at least to fill part of the time and get a true feeling for Edinburgh, Scotland and what it has to offer. There is a charge for the three main organised activities but the Early Career Researcher activities are free. Payable events are made payable directly to the event organiser. Full details and costs are outlined on their website set up for EPICOH delegates only.
Sunday 27th August
Although still 24 hours from conference the ECN (Early Career Network) group are planning to invite Early Career Researchers to meet at the historic Black Bull pub at the Grassmarket (close to the conference venue and hotels) at 7.00pm before visiting some free Fringe shows at a local Fringe/Festival theatre (Espionage) at 7.45pm. More details on attending will be sent out nearer the time to the ECRs and more information on the ECR activities at EPICOH 2017 can be found from ECN. webpage
Monday 28th August
EAST LOTHIAN INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE TOUR - For the early arrivals, we have organised an industrial heritage excursion before the evening conference reception. The tour will pick up at the EICC (conference venue) at 10.00am and will provide a guided coach tour to visit two sites (Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery and Prestongrange Heritage Museum) of importance relating to mining, whisky and engineering, plus a third visit at the famous Rosslyn Chapel (featured in the Da Vinci Code novel/film).
All stops are within close proximity and will help present a picture of the industrial revolution and the industries specific to Scotland at that time and a visit to one of Scotland's most famous whisky distilleries and a chapel of historical interest for its symbolism, beauty and historical links. The cost of the tour is £57.00. You will receive paid entry to all three destinations, a two course lunch with coffee and a Tour Guide. It is a round trip of only around 40 miles / 60km and will last approximately 6 hours, returning at 4.00pm.
Secondly, and after the official Drinks Welcome reception we are suggesting you take advantage of the world famous EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FIREWORKS DISPLAY with its musical extravaganza which is projected onto Edinburgh Castle and which celebrates the end of the International Festival. It is a must see and always sold out. We have managed to obtain 50 tickets for those who want to attend the reception and then take the 5 minute walk down to the Princes Street Gardens and your place for the display. Tickets are £15 each and can be pre-booked on a first come, first served basis with a maximum of 2 tickets per delegate. Email your request to info@epicoh2017.org
Tuesday 29th August
Immediately after the first full conference day we have a post conference EVENING WHISKY TASTING. It will start at 6.15pm in the Cromdale Suite at the EICC. It will last until 7.30 and be a perfect pre-dinner aperitif as well as an opportunity to mix socially with other delegates. It promises to be a personal and authentic experience but delivered in a fun and entertaining presentation by our social events organising partner. The cost is £20.00 per person and includes your drinks and Whisky Expert
If any of the above tours interest you, please book early as places will be limited. You will be booking directly with the official EPICOH conference tours company (Fusion Group/Clearly Scotland) and can book with confidence and knowing that on each excursion you will be exclusively with EPICOH delegates.
The booking form will ask for your details and then payment by credit card and your place will be confirmed.
The ECN will also have a social evening planned from 9pm for those who are looking to enjoy a taste of Edinburgh pubs and music entertainment.
